Mount Canlaon

Mount Canlaon is an active volcano in the northern part of Negros Oriental and stands at 2,435m tall. It is a beautiful area with lots of interesting places to explore with great views of the mountain and surrounding area. It is also possible to hike up Mount Canlaon although the peak is currently closed due to the level of volcanic activity.

Here are some of the beautiful places to visit:

There are some great vantage points close to Canlaon City from where you can see the whole volcano. Early morning view from a farmer’s house set in a sugar field. Nikon D7200, 35mm lens, f11, ISO 100, 25 seconds.

When you get closer to Mount Canlaon you can see the terraces where rice and vegetables are grown.  Steam can sometimes be seen coming from the crater. Nikon D7200, 35mm lens, f16, ISO 100, 5 seconds.

Suludnon Falls involve a 15 minute walk across fields and down to the waterfall. Nikon D7200, Tokina 10-17mm lens, f11, ISO 100, 20 seconds.

To the west of Mount Canlaon you can visit the Balete tree which is believed to be over 1,300  years old. Nikon D7200, Tokina 10-17mm lens, f11, ISO 100, 1/50 second.

To the south there is a suspension bridge over the Padadusan falls that sways and wobbles as you walk over it. Nikon D7200, Tokina 10-17mm lens, f11, ISO 100, 8 seconds.

Views to the west from Canlaon are also beautiful with a small volcano visible in the foreground. From a higher vantage point, you can sometimes see the sea in the Tanon Straight. Nikon D7200, Tokina 10-17mm lens, f11, ISO 100, 15 seconds.
